Over 120K fridges recalled after 34 fires, one loss of life: report

More than 120,000 fridges are being recalled over a fireplace and burn hazard after federal regulators acquired 34 studies of fires, including one that reportedly resulted in a loss of life.

About 121,680 Galanz Retro Refrigerators are affected by the recall, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Thursday.

“The recalled refrigerators’ internal electrical components can short-circuit and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards,” the commission said.

Affected fridges have date codes starting from December 2018 by means of December 2020.

The fridges had been bought in black, blue, crimson and white, measuring about 58 inches tall, 24 inches deep and 21 inches broad.

The fridges have both left-hand opening or right-hand opening doorways with handles, three adjustable glass cabinets and one drawer.

The top freezer has a separate door, one drawer and “Galanz” printed on the entrance.

The objects had been bought at Home Depot shops across the nation and online at Amazon between January 2019 and September 2022 for between $330 and $520.

The CPSC is conscious of 34 studies of fires involving the fridges, including one fireplace that resulted in a fatality, according to a local fireplace division report.

Consumers are urged to unplug and halt use of the recalled fridges instantly and call Galanz to schedule a free in-home restore by a certified technician.
